Trump hits back at Scaramucci after ex-aide suggests replacing him atop GOP ticket

President Trump on Monday hit back at Anthony Scaramucci after the former White House aide suggested the GOP should consider replacing Trump atop the ticket in 2020.

“Scaramucci, who like so many others had nothing to do with my Election victory, is only upset that I didn’t want him back in the Administration (where he desperately wanted to be),” Trump tweeted. “Also, I seldom had time to return his many calls to me. He just wanted to be on TV!”

Scaramucci served as White House communications director for 11 days in 2017. He has in recent days criticized Trump’s rhetoric and on Monday morning said he no longer is actively supporting the president’s reelection bid.

He fired back at Trump on Monday afternoon, dismissing the president’s tweet as a “very weak troll.”

“Bullying is the most anti-American thing in our culture and it is emanating from the Oval Office,” Scaramucci tweeted. “Many have called and are willing to work on a necessary replacement. Time to call in a good relief pitcher. @potus is lost.”

The ex-aide has been a regular presence on cable television since leaving the White House roughly two years ago and often defended the president’s policies and his rhetoric. But he set off an extended back-and-forth with Trump when he on Friday deemed Trump’s visits last week to the sites of recent mass shootings a “catastrophe” and expressed concerns the president is dividing the country.{mosads}

“The racially charged comments, the divisive tweeting, the nonsense coming from the president is not helping the country,” Scaramucci added in an interview Monday morning with CNN’s “New Day.”

Over the weekend, Trump fired back and said Scaramucci was fired from a position “he was totally incapable of handling.”

“Anthony, who would do anything to come back in, should remember the only reason he is on TV, and it’s not for being the Mooch!” the president tweeted Saturday.

Scaramucci escalated his criticisms on Sunday night, telling Axios that he believes the GOP may need to consider replacing Trump on the 2020 ticket.
