Scott rescheduling weekend Iowa events due to flu

Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), a Republican presidential candidate, is rescheduling his planned events in Iowa on Friday and over the weekend after coming down with the flu.

A campaign spokesperson told The Hill that Scott will return to Charleston, S.C., to “rest and recover,” with plans to visit the Hawkeye State next week.

The senator had planned a four-day visit to Iowa following the third Republican presidential debate Wednesday in Miami.

Scott’s illness has prompted the rescheduling of weekend events that included a fundraiser with the Hamilton County GOP and town halls in Boone and Storm Lake, according to a schedule sent out by the campaign earlier this week.

Scott was among five Republican presidential contenders who took to the stage in Miami for the third primary debate, all of whom appear to be upping their focus on Iowa and its caucuses as the party approaches the start of voting in January.

Scott has said it’s “Iowa or bust”  for his campaign.

Recent polling shows former President Trump, far and away the overall front-runner of the GOP presidential race, with a substantial lead in the Hawkeye State.

An NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom survey found Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley tied for second place in Iowa, each with 16 percent — and Scott among a handful of other contenders earning single-digit support.
