Who is the wealthiest person in your state? New Forbes 400 list released

(NEXSTAR) — If you were asked to name the wealthiest people in the country, you could probably come up with a few names: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates.

But what about the wealthiest person in your state?

Nearly every state is home to someone who has landed on the latest Forbes 400 list, published Tuesday. Among those are billionaires who gained their wealth through a multitude of industries, from real estate and tech to pet food and family connections.

Overall, the entire list is worth $5.4 trillion — a record, according to Forbes. To rank on the list, members needed a minimum net worth (estimated as of Sept. 1 this year) of $3.3 billion, up from $2.9 billion last year.

For the third year in a row, Musk landed at the top of the list. His estimated net worth sits at $244 billion, down $7 billion from last year. Bezos and Zuckerberg round out the top three.

California again had more than 80 residents on the list, maintaining its own reign. Following the Golden State were New York, Florida, and Texas.

There were some states, however, that were not represented on the list: Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia.

Below is a list of the richest people in each state, as well as their net worth, according to the latest list from Forbes:

There are 67 women who found themselves among the Forbes 400 this year, up from 60 in 2023. The wealthiest among them is, again, Alice Walton, the only daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton. Her $89.2 billion estimated net worth puts her as the third-wealthiest Texan.

Unlike last year, former President Donald Trump made the list, coming in at No. 319 with an estimated net worth of $4.3 billion.

Thirty people who previously made the list have fallen off, including Vince McMahon, who resigned as chairman of TKO Group earlier this year amid allegations of sex trafficking and abuse.

There were more than a dozen American billionaires who weren’t “rich enough” to make the list, according to Forbes. Despite her record-breaking Eras Tour, pop star Taylor Swift was among those who failed to make the list. Joining her were Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Seinfeld, and Bruce Springsteen.
