U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on Tuesday dismissed calls to cancel President Trump’s state visit to the country after Trump’s Twitter attacks on London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

“The invitation has been issued and accepted, and I see no reason to rescind that,” Johnson told BBC Radio 4’s “Today.”

Trump slammed Khan’s response to a Saturday terrorist attack in tweets on Sunday and Monday after the mayor said that there was “no reason to be alarmed” by increased police presence in London.

{mosads}”Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed’ statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!” Trump tweeted on Tuesday.

In fact, Khan’s comments were referring to the increased police presence in the city in the days following the terror attack, which left seven dead and 48 injured. Khan called on Trump’s invitation to visit the U.K. to be rescinded in the wake of the tweets.

“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the U.S.A. in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,” Khan said on Britain’s Channel 4 News

Prime Minister Theresa May has faced calls by some U.K. politicians in recent days to scrap the planned October visit by Trump, though she has largely dismissed the prospect, saying there’s no reason to rescind the president’s invitation.
